Karam began his time at the tailoring centre as a cutter with a distinct flair for organisation and a winning smile. Despite his parents plans for him to marry a good local girl of their liking, Karam is determined to have a love marriage. He is a Gaddi, one of the local Indian groups that live in the Himalayas. The Gaddis traditionally live on both sides of the Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh, and are often semi nomadic, travelling to high mountain pastures in the summer with large flocks of goats and sheep. Karam's family however are settled in Dharamsala, and both he and his older brother, Lucky, work at the Himalaya Tailoring Centre.
A year ago Karam started learning how to maintain our website and manage the stock flow. He also learnt word processing in our office and so is now in charge of the very important job of stock flow maintenance at the tailoring centre.
His dream is to work under the Himachal minister and so help improve the infrastructure of Dharamsala; he also recently completed his university studies.
