The Garden
Being able to step out of the workshop into the foothills of the Himalayas is a rejuvenating experience. In the large garden, employees enjoy home cooked lunches and chai, while the children play on the lawn. Himalayan roses and poinsettia mingle with more tropical species like hibiscus and bougainvillea.
Mahinder, 22, earns extra money looking after the garden in his spare time (he also presses the garments before packing). When he was six months old his mentally ill father disappeared and has never been seen since. He left school after year eight, becoming a builder’s assistant, and then working in a shop. He is very happy working here and would like to learn tailoring.
